The U.S. based professional services firm KPMG LLP is coming to The Boro. The firm will take up to seven floors of The Boro Tower. It will add 500 jobs in this $30 million expansion.
KPMG serves large organizations around the world, providing business solutions along with state and federal tax, audit and advisory services. The company is industry-focused. It serves companies in the technology, building, construction, retail, consumer, energy, asset management, manufacturing, government, and healthcare industries, among others.
Governor Northham announced the expansion on Wednesday morning. He thanked the firm for creating 500 new jobs in Fairfax County. “With nearly 2,000 employees across Fairfax County, KPMG is an invaluable contributor to the regional economy, and we are honored that a corporate services provider of this caliber has chosen to grow in Virginia,” Northam said.
Virginia competed against Washington D.C. for this project and won. Beating D.C. is a huge win for Fairfax County, especially for Tysons where the firm’s expansion represents new opportunities for the community to grow.
The deal has been in the works since at least July. A lot of players provided resources to secure funding and get support for the project. Fairfax County worked closely with the Virginia Economic Development Partnership to get the investment for Virginia instead of D.C. Governor Northam approved a $1 million Commonwealth Opportunity fund grant to help with the project.
KPMG is eligible for tax credits when they create new full-time jobs in Fairfax County. The Virginia Jobs Investment Program will provide funding and support for the company’s retraining.
The Boro Tower is set to open in early 2019. They will be moving just a block away from its current location at 1676 International Drive. The company plans to take up around 169,000 square feet in their new office space. The building they are leaving is also expected to undergo renovations in the near future to be more in line with developments like The Boro.
