Happy 2019! We’re so excited to see what’s in store for Tysons this year, and we just can’t wait to get started.
But, we might have to, at least for one more day. Here’s the lowdown on what’s open today (including where to get your ride home after midnight) and what’s staying closed for the holiday.
Government office holiday closings
Fairfax County offices: All Fairfax County offices are taking the day off. Normal business hours will resume January 2.
Fairfax County schools: Schools are out the rest of the week. Good luck, parents.
Virginia state offices: Courts are closed December 31 and January 1, including circuit court, general district court, and juvenile and domestic relations district court.
Trash pickup: Trash pickup will operate as normal on January 1.
Recreational holiday closings
Community centers: All Fairfax County Neighborhood and Community Services (NCS) programs, activities and facilities are closed December 31 and January 1. The McLean Community Center is also closed on January 1.
Recreation centers: Fairfax County rec centers, except George Washington, are open today regular hours and on New Year’s Day from 10 am until 6 pm. George Washington RECenter is closed today and tomorrow all day.
Libraries: All libraries are closed January 1 and will reopen on January 2.
Parks: All park offices are closed December 31 and January 1.
Transportation holiday schedules and closings
Fairfax Connector: The bus service is operating on a holiday weekday schedule tonight and a Sunday schedule tomorrow. See the times on their website.
Fastran: Fastran won’t be running on January 1.
Metrorail: Metro opened at 5 am this morning and is running tonight until 2 am. Tomorrow, Metrorail will operate on a Sunday schedule (8 am until 11 pm). Off-peak fares are in effect, and you can find free parking at Metro lots and garages. See their website for more details.
Metrobus: Today, Metrobus is running on a normal weekday schedule. Tomorrow it will be on a Sunday schedule.
